Metairie, LA – On July 1st, 2025, Greater New Orleans Federal Credit Union will officially become EPIC Federal Credit Union. This move, according to the Credit Unions Executive Team and Board of Directors positions the Credit Union to grow beyond the Greater New Orleans footprint and also better reflects the dynamic approach to serving the community that EPIC will be delivering.

This name change comes after months of contemplation and was done intentionally in a manner that will not adversely affect their current members. Any accounts, loans, investments or business anyone has with GNO will stay exactly as it has been. Member account numbers, passwords, etc. Will remain the same and your current GNO credit/debit cards, checks and other items will continue to be accepted.

EPIC CEO, Shelley Sanders is excited about the name change and all it represents, “In choosing “EPIC”, we take on a name that reflects the style of services and products we will provide but also, it reflects the level of personalized care we have always stood for. In fact, we see it as an acronym; E- Educating, P- Protecting, I- Impacting and C- Community.”

This year, GNO celebrated their 90th year of existence. Originating as a Credit Union for Bell South Telephone Workers, the Credit Union has branches in Metairie, Mid-City New Orleans and in Harvey. They have also broken ground on a new branch in Covington. They have recently launched two innovative lending programs. Their “Heroes Mortgage Program” offers friendly rates and can structure mortgages so those who work in healthcare, law enforcement, the energy field, necessary services or the military can buy a house with zero down payment. They also exclusively offer their “Renew & Rebuild” Program aimed specifically at homeowners who have damaged their credit score thus disqualifying them from affordable home improvement loans. Through “Renew & Rebuild” those individuals can receive an affordable home improvement loan and they will receive the tools necessary to repair their credit scores as well. Recently, they were named “Best Credit Union” and “Best Mortgage Source” by the readers of City Business Magazine. They were also recently named a “Best Place to Work” by the Advocate/Times Picayune. EPIC is a not-for-profit entity serving its Members in a variety of ways. They are also a CDFI Credit Union which means part of their mission is to serve underserved and disadvantaged communities and provide lending and other financial assistance to many who would not normally qualify. Their CEO, Sanders says “EPIC is more than a name, it describes the impact we want to have on our members and everyone we deal with.”
