Developments surrounding the Credit Card Competition Act (CCCA) continue to evolve, with recent Senate activity signaling a more uncertain and potentially consequential path forward.
As discussions expand beyond swipe fees to include broader credit card pricing and market structure, credit unions and other community-based financial institutions have raised concerns about unintended consequences – including impacts to interchange income, operational costs, and the long-term ability to provide affordable financial services to members.
In response, Luminate has taken direct action. We have communicated with each member of Louisiana’s federal delegation to outline how the CCCA could affect credit unions and the communities they serve. In addition, Luminate has joined league partners nationwide by signing onto the joint league letter coordinated through America’s Credit Unions, urging lawmakers to carefully consider the downstream impacts of the legislation.
As the bill moves through committee consideration and potential amendments are discussed, continued engagement will be critical to ensuring policymakers understand the real-world implications for credit unions and consumers.
Luminate Advocacy Call to Action
Luminate encourages Louisiana credit unions to remain actively engaged on this issue.
Credit unions are encouraged to:
- Stay alert for advocacy updates and potential action alerts
- Review national and state league advocacy materials, including the joint league letter
- Be prepared to support coordinated outreach to Louisiana’s federal delegation
Luminate will continue leading engagement efforts and will provide guidance as additional advocacy opportunities arise.
