BATON ROUGE – La Capitol FCU celebrated its 20th year with the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame, as it welcomed a stellar induction class including football legends Nick Saban and four-time Pro Bowler Andrew Whitworth during the June 26-28, 2025, event.

Saban led LSU to a 2003 football national championship before coaching 17 seasons at rival University of Alabama and winning another six national titles before his retirement in 2024.

Whitworth won championships at West Monroe High School, LSU, and in the NFL during a 16-year professional career. He was a key player in the 2003 LSU championship team and was recognized as the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year in 2021.

The Welcome Reception, presented by La Capitol and hosted by Sales and Business Development Manager Lindsey Robinson, kicked off three days of activities and entertainment. “Two decades is more than just a measure of time—it’s a testament to shared values, enduring commitment, and a belief in something greater than ourselves,” she said. “That’s exactly what unites the world of athletics with the spirit of credit unions.”

La Capitol, in its second year as the Official Credit Union of the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame, has a wide impact on the Hall of Fame. “Over the past 20 years, our sponsorship has been more than financial – it’s also relational,” Robinson said. “We’ve built connections with schools, coaches, and families. We’ve watched young athletes grow into leaders. We’ve celebrated the sweat, the struggle, and the stories that define Louisiana.”

Other 2025 honorees are Danny Granger, NBA All-Star, and USA World Champion medalist from New Orleans; Vickie Johnson, Coushatta native, WNBA All-Star and Louisiana Tech great; April Burkholder, 14-time LSU gymnastics All-American, and 2006 NCAA beams champ; Bobby Soileau, Sacred Heart-Ville Platte boxer with multiple LHSAA and LSU NCAA crowns; Danny Broussard, the nation’s No. 7 winningest prep basketball coach at St. Thomas More; Joe Scheuermann, Delgado Community College baseball coach and a top state college wins list coach; Dale Weiner, Baton Rouge-Catholic’s championship football and weightlifting coach; Herb Vincent, SEC associate commissioner, LSU alumnus, and former administrator; Ed Daniels, iconic sportscaster at New Orleans’ WGNO-TV for 40 years; and Glenn Guilbeau, a highly decorated, nationally-acclaimed Baton Rouge-based sports writer.
