Southwest Louisiana Credit Union hosted their 4th Annual Back-to-School Community Resource Fair on Saturday, August 9th, 2025! This exciting event took place from 10 AM to 1 PM at their 2255 East McNeese Street branch in Lake Charles, offering a great day of fun, resources, and community.

It was an afternoon filled with a variety of family-friendly activities and school supply giveaways. With over 1,500 attendees, children received free school supplies, snack packs, book bags, Hunt Brother’s pizza, and snow cones. And, over 120 pairs of Nike school shoes were given away to students who qualified for them during a youth account promotion in July.

In addition to these exciting freebies, they partnered with over 20 organizations from across Southwest Louisiana to provide a wide range of resources and information to support the community. A few organizations that were in attendance included the Boys and Girls Club of Acadiana, Calcasieu Parish Public Library, SWLA Center for Health Services, and Lake Charles Memorial Hospital. Among other community partners, LifeShare Blood Center was on-site to accept life-saving blood donations, the Lake Charles Fire Department showed off their fire truck, and the Lake Charles Police Department allowed kids to see their armored vehicles as well. And as a bonus, they had fun jump house inflatables and games outside!

“Southwest Louisiana Credit Union is committed to supporting our community, and our Back-to-School Community Resource Fair is one of the many ways we aim to give back,” said Makeitta Darbonne Citizen, Southwest Louisiana Credit Union’s Director of Community Engagement. “We loved seeing families come together, have fun, and get ready for another successful school year.”
