On Tuesday, June 24th Southwest Louisiana Credit Union hosted an informative & thought provoking free community workshop appropriately called “Planning for Tomorrow”-Leaving Behind a Legacy not Just Debt. The workshop was presented in collaboration with community partners Southwest Louisiana Law Center and Friend of the credit Union-Community Leader Eligha Guillory, Funeral Director of Kings Funeral Home, along with SWLACU staff representatives.
With over 70 attendees, there was standing room only in Southwest’s Thomas Conner Community Room, as the panel addressed topics such as wills, trusts, successions, what happens to your bank accounts and/or your debt when you pass away, life insurance essentials and the difference between joint accounts and beneficiaries?
“This event was about meeting the needs of the community and being a solution, brining answers and peace of mind,” said Makeitta Citizen, SWLACU’s Director of Community Engagement . “We want to give our community the tools and knowledge they need to make confident decisions about the needs of their family and the future.”
The event was also streamed live on our Facebook page for those who could not attend in-person. Light refreshments were served and door prizes were also provided.
